Has this ever happened to you?

For those of you who do follow my Goodreads account, you know that I am currently reading Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. I got this book quite a long time ago. I think it was anytime between 2008 to 2010. I was in university at the time. I saw the movie and decided it was a good idea to read the book. For the longest time I thought I lost the book because I could not find it anywhere in my huge area of stuff from university. But I finally found it! It was bookmarked with only just 20 pages read. I thought I have read a lot more than that but I guess I didn't. So I started to read it from the beginning again and now I know why I stopped. It was so boring!! I am on about to start Chapter 5 in the novel and I am struggling to stay interested. What do you do when this happens to you?

I then thought it would be a good idea for me to look up trailers on YouTube for Revolutionary Road in hopes that it would get me interested. It did a bit but not enough to want me to continue the book. I might have to rent the DVD or download the movie to get me back into it again. I personally think the book was more written for married couples or for an older audience. Maybe that is why it's so difficult for me to keep interested. Also the fact that the book is based in the 1950s...

Here is a synopsis of the novel (taken from Chapters online website):

In the hopeful 1950s, Frank and April Wheeler appear to be a model couple: bright, beautiful, talented, with two young children and a starter home in the suburbs. Perhaps they married too young and started a family too early. Maybe Frank''s job is dull. And April never saw herself as a housewife. Yet they have always lived on the assumption that greatness is only just around the corner. But now that certainty is about to crumble. With heartbreaking compassion and remorseless clarity, Richard Yates shows how Frank and April mortgage their spiritual birthright, betraying not only each other, but their best selves.

  1. It is a much better read than the terribly written 50 Shades series, but it is worth a shot.

You may be more interested in Emily Giffin or Sofie Kinsella novels.

This novel was published in the '60s so it may not be suited to your tastes.
