Light Blue Shade Shampoo Review

Sometime late February of this year I purchased a new purple shampoo for my ombre hair. I have written a brief blog post about it at the time I purchased the product. This shampoo is designed for people with white, grey and blonde hair. I am reviewing this product as I had blonde hair.

I finished about a third of the bottle which gives me a good idea of how well the product worked for me.

First off, I found this product in Walmart when I was searching for a new bottle of purple shampoo. I previously tried the purple shampoo from John Freida but I wanted to try something new. I read a few reviews of this product before I tried out the product on my hair. I am glad I did because the shampoo is a lot more pigmented than I original thought it would be (lavender purple).

Above is picture of what the product looks like straight out of the bottle. You can see that the product is a dark purple; which totally freaked me out at first. However, I did read reviews of this product and girls have been mixing this shampoo with small amounts of their regular shampoo for colour treated hair. So that is exactly what I did.

I put a bit too much of the regular shampoo with the Light Blue Shade Shampoo but you do get an idea of what I did to achieve a lighter shade of purple shampoo.

Once both products are all mixed together, you can see that the shampoo is now an appropriate shade of purple for my ombre hair. I would do all the mixing in the palm of my hand when I am in the shower.

As for the benefits that the products claim that it does to your hair, it definitely did it for me. However my ends were a bit dried out from the winter weather, which is normal. There is only so much a shampoo can do to moisturize your hair. It's all about the deep conditioning masks for the hair to get moisture back into your hair.

I would repurchase this product again if I ever do decide to dye parts of my hair blonde again. It is a less expensive alternative to the John Freida purple shampoo as this bottle only costs me around $7 for a 450 mL bottle.

If you don't have a Walmart near you, you can also purchase Light Blue Shade online.

Note 1: Shampoo swatch pictures were taken with my iPhone because my regular digital camera made the shampoo photo blue instead of purple.

Note 2: I no longer I have ombre hair because I cut my hair earlier this week! If you follow me on Instagram, you would see what it currently looks like!

Trying Something New

I went to my local Walmart today to find a new bottle of purple shampoo for my ombre hair. I finished my bottle of the John Freida Sheer Blonde Colour Renew Tone Correcting Shampoo and it costs me around $10 for the bottle. I wanted to try something new and inexpensive as compared to the previous shampoo that I have used. I came across a brand called Light Blue Shade. The unique shape of the bottle intrigued me at first and then it was the price. It was around $7 a bottle and came with almost twice the amount of product as compared to the John Freida shampoo. I have not used the product yet but I have looked up reviews for this product. Apparently the colour of this shampoo is a lot darker than normal purple shampoos in the market. People suggest mixing it with another regular shampoo and using it only once a week. I only use a tone correcting shampoo once a week so that is not a problem for me. I will give a more in-depth review once I have used this Light Blue Shade Shampoo.

101 Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know: Tips 6 -> 2

I cannot believe I forgot to post yesterday. I apologize to those who were waiting. I got a last minute call yesterday for an interview this afternoon so I was prepping all last night. Part two of the interview is tomorrow morning so tonight I will be prepping for that. I hope you all understand. This weekend is Halloween weekend! I hope some of you got some fun weekend plans coming up! Me and Shawn are going clubbing for the first time in a long time. I don't even remember the last time me and Shawn went clubbing together. That is how long ago it was. This is when you know you are getting old. When you can't remember the last time you partied. Me and Shawn also need to carve a pumpkin. We plan to make the pumpkin on the far right (picture below).

6) The best way to get rid of ingrown hair is to exfoliate, "which rids the skin of dead cells and allows the hair to break through the surface" - Marlena Ramoy, Bliss Spa Esthetician

This is especially important if you wax any part of your body. If you don't want any ingrown hair, make sure you exfoliate. You can exfoliate with a dry brush before you shower and a loofah/body glove in the shower. I am currently using a dry body brush from The Body Shop.

5) Carrots are good for the hair. A healthy diet leads to a beautiful you.

I strongly believe in having a healthy diet to help improve your skin, hair and well-being. If you eat bad, you will look bad. If you eat good, you will look good. If you have trouble eating vegetables, try juicing them with fruits. I know RissRose2 on YouTube has some really great juicing ideas/videos.

4) "The best time to apply cream is after the shower, as the skin has been de-oiled." - Dr. Stephen P. Bracci

It is also a great time since your pores are open from the steam in your shower. The best creams are the body butters. I know The Body Shop has tons! I personally don't like body butters since I find that it leaves a heavy scent in my skin which I don't like. I use a special lotion made by Cetaphil for my eczema skin.

3) Replace mascara and liquid eyeliner after three to four months.

This is because the bacteria that is on your lashes and eyelids goes back into the mascara and eyeliner applicator. I learned this from a women at a Clinique counter. The mascara gets thicker in the container because both air and bacteria are getting into your mascara. Sounds really gross but it's true.

2) To keep hair colour vibrant longer, use shampoos and conditioners formulated for coloured hair.

This is pretty obvious but there still some girls out there that don't do this. It is important to do this since you did spend a lot of money at the salon getting all that hair coloured. Don't want to waste it away!

Stayed tuned next Tuesday to get the final tip!

101 Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know: Tips 16->12

This past Tuesday was my parent's 30th wedding anniversary. We went for teppanyaki and it was so delicious! My dad got her a pearl bracelet that I helped picked out and a bouquet of pink roses. When couples reach 30 years of marriage, the theme is pearls and the colour green. So that is why I told my dad to buy her a pearl bracelet. She has tons of pearl necklaces and earrings but not bracelets (well not that I've seen). Shawn surprised my parents with an anniversary card and two double shot glasses that says "Cheers to 30 years". You definitely need a double shot after being married for 30 years. It's a big accomplishment! Especially after hearing all these divorces and break-ups happening to their friends in real life over the past few years.

16) Use a facial exfoliater bi-weekly to get dead skin. Makeup will look better on a clean, smooth canvas.

If my facial toner counts as an exfoliator then yes I do this tip! My toner gently removes off any excess make-up that my cleanser did not remove while returning my skin back to it's natural pH level. It also removes off any dead skin I have to reveal new skin. The current toner I am using is the Clinique Facial Lotion in #1 (for very dry to dry skin.

15) After using a hair conditioning mask, follow with "a cold rinse to close the hair cuticles" - Ursala Stephensen, Motions celebrity stylist.

When you wash your hair with hot water, it open up the hair cuticles to remove any of the products and oils that are in the hair shaft. Once you put a conditioning mask on it, you are basically stuffing the hair cuticle with the healthy vitamins. To seal it into your hair, rinse with cold water. Cold water makes the hair cuticle close since the molecules in it are contracting into each other. It's a molecular thing I learned back in chemistry class. I knew it was good for something!

14) To get your braid to last all day, try styling hair that's "dirty with product". This will make the style stick longer.

I say you can braid you hair while it is still damp. Run some mousse into it. That way your braid will hold together and when you undo your braid [once your hair is completely dry or your tired of your braid], you will have nice wavy hair after without any heat damage.

13) Use a clarifying shampoo once a week to rid of any product build-up that may have occurred during the week.

I would recommend this for people who style their hair on a daily basis. I don't style my hair enough to actually need this. Also since now that I have colour-treated hair, it is recommend that I wash my hair even less now. I do use a purple shampoo once a week to help with the brassiness in my hair.

12) If you have chipped nail polish, add a crackle or glitter on top to disguise the look of chipping.

This is great for people who don't have the time to give themselves a complete manicure. Usually if my nail polish chips, I just give myself a new manicure. But for those busy girls on the go, I would recommend doing this OR try getting Shellac nail polish. Those manicures apparently last a very long time. I personally like to change my nail colour often so Shellac would be pointless for me.

101 Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know: Tips 41->37

Ahhhhhh!! It's my birthday week!!! I am turning 25 on Thursday and I am super excited! Well mostly to celebrate it, not turning 25. That is a quarter of a century people! That is old! Anyways, I plan to go to dinner with Shawn on my birthday then watching Glee and the premiere of Jersey Shore's last season. Then On Saturday I am celebrating with my friends for dinner. I am also going to the CN Tower and Steamwhistle Brewery that morning. I also went to the salon today to get my hair did! Here is a sneak peek!! I won't be showing you guys the full hair until Thursday!!!

41) If you're not a fan of liquid eye liner, get the look of liquid eye liner by using a gel instead.

I do prefer using a liquid eyeliner because I find it easier to use. Gel liner is too time consuming and you require using a separate brush for it. I do own gel/cream liners but I only use them whenever I am in the mood which is hardly ever.

40) Exfoliate before applying self tanner to get rid of dead skin. Tanning products tend to cling to dryer areas.

I don't self tan so this tip is more useful for those who do self tan. But I am pretty sure those who do self tan already know this.

39) If you straighten your hair with a flat iron, cause less heat damage by letting it hair air-dry. The less heat, the better!

I never straighten my hair since my hair is already straight. And when I do wash my hair, I always let it air-dry unless I am showering late at night or on early cold winter mornings. I do know some girls that blow dry their hair then straighten it. By that time, their hair looks fried like hay. Not a cute look!

38) To minimize pores, use a pore-minimizing facial wash followed by a toner. Make sure the toner is alcohol-free so it won't dry out your skin.

I don't have many large pores on my face since I got dry skin. However I do have some large pores on my nose. My boyfriend has large pores on his face so I will definitely tell him this tip!

37) The healthier you are, the healthier you hair! Take a daily multi-vitamin with Biotin to help hair grow.

I don't have an issue with my hair. I just got my hair done today at the salon and the girl told me I had really healthy silky hair. Even after I coloured my hair, it was still silky soft. I was worried it was going to feel fried but it turned out really nice and soft! So I am super happy about that. I eat lots of fish (I LOVE SUSHI) and lots of greens. I also don't use a lot of heat on my hair and use leave-in conditioners on my hair.

Me at Pioneer Square in Downtown Portland. You can see how straight and healthy my hair looks!

101 Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know: Tips 51->47

AHHHH!! I can't believe tomorrow is my trip to Seattle!! It seems like yesterday I was just planning this trip! My flight leaves really early tomorrow morning so I need to get up at 3am (my flight leaves at 6:05am). Not looking forward to that but that is why I woke up early today in hopes I will get tired by tonight. I have so much today! I have to paint my nails, wash my hair, pack (this will take a few hours), upload a video, write a blog post (doing it now!) AND watch The X Factor and Glee!!! I hope by the end of this day, I will be passed out in my bed until 3am.

If you want to know what I will be doing in Seattle/Portland, read my blog post about my Fifty Shades of Grey Inspired Vacation.

Now time for some beauty tips!!

51) "I always think that less is more, there's a point where you look in the mirror and say 'Is this too much?' and if you even have that inclination then it usually is." Kim Catrall, Sex and the City

I usually have this problem when I apply my lip colour. I think my makeup looks good with the lip colour but as soon as I put it on, I wipe it off. Sometimes I think I should put on my lip colour first then do the rest of my makeup. Do any of you girls do this?

50) When applying bronzer, "first start by applying it around the perimeter of your face and follow with a light dusting on your forehead, nose and chin" - Mally Roncal, Mally Beauty

I think this tip is if you want a sunkissed bronzed look. I use bronzer to contour my face. However this tip can be used on those days in the summer where you have a really good tan going on. That hardly ever happens to me but one day, I will be tan enough to do this!

49) To get curls when you have straight hair, use the following, "a volumizer or volume thickening agent, a curl enhancing product, light holding finishing spray" Vicktor Stevenson, Hair Stylist

I use two of the products listed! The curl enhancing product I use is Tresemme Thermal Creations Curl Activator Spray (no longer available in Canada). The light holding finishing spray I use is Paul Mitchell ExpressStyle Hot Off The Press. This also acts as a heat protectant.

48) "Foundation should never be heavy" - Aura Schwartz, makeup artist

I totally agree with this. To prevent this from happening, apply your foundation with a damp sponge or a brush. Start off with a small amount. If you need more coverage, apply another thin layer.

47) "The right red [lipstick] will light up your hair, eyes and skin immediately, the wrong one will not." - Poppy Kind, Lipstick Queen

Like I have said before, I am still looking for the perfect red lipstick. I saw in ItsJudyTime videos, that she is wearing a certain red lipstick from L'Oreal and I want to buy it! Her teeth look so white in the video! It is L'Oreal Infallible Le Rouge in Refined Ruby.

101 Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know: Tips 56->52

Last night I had trouble sleeping because I was getting too excited for my Seattle trip. I was thinking about outfits I should wear and whether or not if I should vlog from the moment I wake up. I think it would be fun since most of my vlogs are of me outside my house. Would you be interested in seeing a vlog from the moment I wake up? I obviously won't be vlogging every bit of my routine but the significant parts. Our flight leaves on Friday morning around 6am so I have to be at the airport by 4am. You will definitely be seeing me at my best.....NOT! I also would like to give a birthday shout out to the hottest bachelor out there....Arie Luyendyk Jr. Who else remembers him from Emily's season of The Bachelorette? He is my fave!!! I would have so taken him into the fantasy suite. He turns 31 today!!! =D

56) Winter can be especially hard on your hair leaving it extra dry. Eugene Davis, celebrity hair stylist suggests using an Avocado Oil Hair Mask.

Even when it's not even winter, I like to put in a leave-in conditioner on my hair. I have a variety of them such as It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product, Avon Advance Techniques Dry Ends Serum and Moroccan Oil Treatment.

55) If you don't have nail polish remover, apply clear polish over and then wipe off. It will remove old polish.

I never tried this trick before but it does sound interesting! I do have a tendency to peel off my nail polish. I know it's a bad habit but it saves me from using too much nail polish remover. Do you do this as well or is it just me?

54) During the summer, wear chapstick or lip gloss with SPF.

Obviously it is important to wear SPF on your lips. Your lips can get sunburned too! I have a chapstick that I got for free in Downtown Toroto and it has an SPF 25. I save this for the summer months! As for lip gloss with SPF, I know ELF Cosmetics has a wide range of lip glosses/ lip balms with SPF for cheap!

53) To add volume to clean or unwashed hair, use a dry shampoo spray.

Using a dry shampoo is a great alternative to using hairspray when teasing your hair for more volume. The oils by your roots tend to leave the hair weighed down so it's great to have a dry shampoo to absorb the excess oils.

52) Change your beauty routine for Spring/Summer months. Your skin needs less coverage during the spring so you can swap the heavy products for the lighter ones.

The only thing that changes really for me is the colours. I don't wear foundation so I don't need to worry about switching coverage for my skin. I go for lighter colours in the spring/summer and darker colours for the fall/winter.
